I love Wikipedia, I do, here is a list of colleges with over 1 billion in endowments as of 2012, saved me a lot of time.

Okay, I roughly added them up, it comes to $274,980,000,000.00 almost 275 billion dollars that these universities have in their piggy banks.  This is only 68 universities with over a billion in endowment.  This does not take into consideration all the rest of the universities in the country.
